How to Make a Difference with Camp Harlam All Year Long!

harlam helps 2.jpgOne of our core values at Camp Harlam is Tikkun Olam, Repairing the World. In the summer of 2012, campers participated in many Tikkun Olam projects including Galil’s supply drive for the homeless, Sharon’s partnership with Challah for Hunger, Carmel’s “Variety Show” to benefit Heartbeat, and Chavurah participation in the Jewish Teen Funders’ Network.

Even though we cannot always be in Kunkletown practicing Tikkun Olam together, we can live our values all year long. We know that many Harlam familes and congregations participate in Tikkun Olam projects and activities. This weekend, over 35 Harlamites will come together in Philadelphia to work with the Jewish Relief Agency to provide much needed food to people in our community.

And we don’t want to wait until the summer of 2013 to continue doing Tikkun Olam together! Before camp begins this summer, I will be cutting my hair for Locks of Love. Locks of Love provides custom hairpieces for children and adolescents who have lost their hair. They help build a sense of confidence and help kids regain normalcy in their lives. I hope that many Harlamites will join me in committing to cut and donate their hair before camp this summer. It takes about 10 donations to create one hairpiece for a kid—let’s aim to have at least 10 Harlamites donate their hair prior to summer 2013! If you’re interested in donating, email Beth Kanofsky.

There are so many easy things we can do as a community to “Repair the World” and we look forward to engaging in Tikkun Olam with you all year long.

Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing Shabbat!
