Introducing Rishonim: 12-Day Intro Experience

Rishonim means “First Ones” in Hebrew and it’s the perfect name for our brand new Intro Experience program, where first-time campers get to try the best Harlam has to offer in a shortened 12-day stay!

Rishonim A: Wed. 7/22 – Sun. 8/2 for current 1st & 2nd graders (as of Sept. 2019)

Rishonim B: Wed. 8/5 – Sun. 8/16 for current 3rd & 4th graders (as of Sept. 2019)

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are Rishonim campers in a cabin on their own? This program is designed exclusively for campers to provide an introduction to the Harlam experience and highlights the best of what our community and program provide. Therefore, Rishonim campers will be assigned to bunks with only other Intro Experience participants. Campers will occasionally participate in activities with campers in other units, as well as the larger camp community.
  • Are Rishonim campers allowed to extend and stay the whole session if they want? Unfortunately we do not allow families to extend beyond the 12-day session.
  • So, a 12-day option is only available their first summer? We offer the Rishonim experience as a way to welcome first-time campers who may not be ready for the full session and/or are looking for a “taste” of camp. We tailor the program accordingly – with a beginning, middle and end – and hire staff to best address the needs of those campers. We hope they leave feeling more confident and ready for the full session the following summer.
  • Do you recommend the Rishonim program for first-time campers? Rishonim is full of activity and offers the essence of the camp’s unique spirit and experience, but we also encourage families considering this option to give thought to the full 3½-week sessions (please keep in mind Rishonim is the only overnight option for current 1st graders). We have found over many years that campers who are ready for our Intro Experience at Camp Harlam are almost always ready for more, and it’s the full First and Second Sessions that provide the most robust and authentic program for all ages of campers.
