The initial stress and worry about returning wears off in an instant when over five hundred campers arrive on Opening Day. They are looking to you to give them the best summer of their lives. Leading activities and events which may seem crazy or weird actually becomes normalized. Being given the opportunity to lead an entire team this year during color war was a true highlight of this summer! It allowed me to see why camp means so much to not only the campers but the counselors as well. This lead to me coming to terms with the fact that inside these gates, a lot of people get to be who they truly are and living ten for two truly means something those who return year after year.

Returning as a member of the communications staff for my second year added to the reasoning behind why I came back to Harlam. I’ve truly been able to become a part of a family within my department, so to Risha, Abby, Abbey, Izzy and Julia all I can say is thank you for helping me realize why after last year I loved Harlam so much and why I returned to this place to begin a new magical adventure.

My love for camp is ever-growing and moving into the bunk and becoming a counselor to over one hundred new kids this summer has helped me grow as a leader and as a person. Camp Harlam for the first time has allowed me to become a part of something bigger than myself and grow as a member of our own Kehila Kedosha (sacred community), which I will be eternally grateful for.
