Community is defined as a group of people who have characteristics in common or who share common interests. But after spending some time here at Camp Harlam, we see that it is more about coming to a place and leaving as a family.

When we first came to Camp Harlam from our own communities in England, we didn’t know what to expect. We were welcomed home, but we didn’t know what this meant. At least not yet. Just like we have our own slang home: I’m knackered, bit & bob, rubbish…

Harlam has its own too: ruach, Rak Dan, Maccabiah

To all of you who are new in this community and haven’t gotten the hang of Harlamisms yet, don’t worry- If David can get it anyone can!

Katie Jones is returning to camp for her 3rd summer. She is from Newcastle, England and is studying to become an elementary school teacher. Katie was part of our waterfront staff for 2 year and now this year she is an assistant unit head.

David Wall is returning to camp for his 4th summer. He spent 2 summer on the waterfront staff and this is his second summer working with Chavurah. He recetly graduated from the University of Birmingham and will start his studies for a Master’s degree in Marketing this fall.
