Change is constant. Evolution, societal norms, personal growth, the lens in which we see and comprehend the world. We are changing consistently throughout our lives. From the knowledge we possess to the cells in our bodies, we are different people each and every day.

I want all of you to take a second and think about alteration in your own lives. It seems that as we reflect on the change we experience, we tend to focus on the large adjustments. It makes sense as it’s easy. Large changes are more tangible. They are seemingly more prominent. However when you dig deep you recognize that small changes are equally as important.

Small changes are significant because they lead to more. As the brilliant Lyndsay Nelson (Arava Unit Head) once said, small change is like a pebble in a pond. It’s incredible how far the water will ripple from the force of a tiny little stone. K’far, Harlam, I want you to throw more pebbles into the waters of your life. At camp we have opportunities everyday to make small changes that can be significantly impactful down the line. It is up to you to want to be the person that grasps this. I encourage all of you to be kind to someone you’re not close with, and to build a new bond. You are incredibly powerful people.  Be a force of change not just on the grand scale, but modestly as well.

Sam “Skelly” Kelly is the K’Far Noar Unit head for the second summer in a row. it is his 6th year as staff member at Camp Harlam. Sam is from Somerset, NJ. After a summer away from camp, He is thrilled to be returning to what is for many of us, our home away from home.
