Week 2 brought the heat and rain. Despite the challenging weather, our campers enjoy Wacky Bingo, Steam Hikes and the 4th of July Carnival hosted by our fabulous CITs!

Carmel: Carmel is starting to get into the swing of camp. They are making friends and expanding friendship circles within the unit. Although the weather was not always on our side, Carmel participated in Wacky Bingo, mask chain making and Messy Night. (Don’t worry they got hosed off by a surprise visit from the Polk Township firefighters.) Carmel also received letters from their future buddies, they are most definitely looking forward to Carmel Chavurah Day.

Sharon: Sharon had a great week! We had so much fun at our evening programs making sock puppets and playing Coke and Pepsi. We bonded with our bunks and had a lot of fun during bunk night! We climbed high at adventure and splashed in the pools. We had a restful yet rainy Shabbat and had so much fun during bunko and wacky bingo night!

Kineret: This week Kineret had a blast at our Cupcake wars evening program. We decorated and ate delicious cupcakes! Kineret also led beautiful Friday night Shabbat services. We talked about the importance of using our words to create a positive impact. Kineret loved getting to do different arts this week such as drama and ceramics.

Arava: Even though it rained a lot this week, Arava had a great time! We went on a stream hike as a unit with Teva and played in the pool with Waterfront. We made our own Yads, which we can use to read from the Torah! We also got to switch up our athletic choices and our arts choices and try new things (and even try out for the play!). Our evening programs were really fun too, with lake nights, bunk bonding, nailed it (where we made replicas of camp buildings out of candy) and some others. We are really excited for next week!

Galil: This week Galil campers took their creativity muscles for a spin with an improv night evening program and they made Yads out of clay to use to avoid touching the Torah with their dirty fingers. Galil campers also were super compassionate and wrote over 40(!) letters to political prisoners. They also did some of the usual, participated in athletics (basketball, volleyball, archery and soccer) and got to climb to the top of adventure elements.

K’Far Noar: K’Far had a great week! We were so excited to get our Kineret buddies. During our Knesset Night evening program, we learned about how the Israeli government functions by roleplaying the different political parties. We made the best of a rainy night by competing in a senior camp sing down, and had a great time leading Saturday morning Shabbat services.

Chavurah: It was great to get things rolling in Chavurah! We had an amazing time this week trying all the adventure elements, hanging out in the teaching kitchen, and some of us even tried out for the play! While most of the week was in the mid-90s, we beat the heat by swimming in our very own I pool! We also spent the week learning in our University programs, where we talk about all things DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and Jewish Identity!

Gesher: The CITs had an awesome week full of fun, learning and leadership. Our Gesher participants recently switched to their 2nd rotations of the summer. There are CITs ALL around camp from Tzofim to the lake. From camper care to Israel our wonderful CITs never stop learning about themselves, their jobs and the Harlam community. As they prepare for the rest of the session they continue to get the campers excited for the 4th of July Carnival, song sessions, The CIT Variety show, Banquet and so much more!
