When thinking about our camps middot (Jewish values), I can’t help but reflect on the unit of Carmel and how they embody them throughout their first summer here. One the first day of camp, I gave a carmilian a bitachon atzmi bracelet after having the confidence to climb onto the top bunk. Since giving out that first bracelet and seeing how excited the whole bunk was, I knew this was the beginning of their journey to their best selves.

This was a summer of firsts for Carmel. First time at camp, first time away from home, first ever insect night, first Maccabiah, and my first summer as the Carmel unit head. Being in Carmel with all new campers, has reminded me how special this place is to me and how it has shaped who I am. I can’t wait to see how their journey unfolds and who they will become over time.

Casey Quinto is the Carmel Unit Head this summer. It is her 15th summer at Camp Harlam. She is from Metuchen, NJ. Casey loves sitting by the campfire and listening to everyone sing!
