In honor of Lisa David and Kara Weiner’s 18 years at Camp Harlam!

Nineteen years ago in 2002, which was Arie Gluck’s final summer as Harlam’s Director, camp sold Arie Gluck bobblehead dolls, which are now given away to the Aries – an end-of-summer awards show to recognize our staff. In Arie’s spirit, we decided that the 18-year loyalty gift would be a custom bobblehead for each of our honorees. But in typical fashion, Arie continues to outdo all of us. Whereas Arie’s bobblehead is eerily reminiscent of the Director past generations of Harlamites knew and loved, the bobbleheads we present tonight are more creative interpretations of the two wonderful women who are celebrating eighteen years. But what they represent is 18 years of blood, sweat, and tears, all in the name of making this place a home for literally thousands of people who have come through the gates of camp during their time here.

Our first recipient is our amazing Programming/Camp K’ton Supervisor, Kara Weiner. Whether it was when she was a camper, worked in Omanut, or supervised Chavurah, Kara has made a huge impact on camp. Once you are Kara’s camper, you are ALWAYS Kara’s camper. She builds beautiful relationships with everyone she works with and almost always has a smile on her face. And now, in this new role, Kara has worked hard to make sure that the magic continues to happen behind the scenes. We are so lucky to have Kara on our team!

Our other bobblehead recipient is our unbelievable, most fantastic director, the one and only Lisa David! Lisa frequently says that if we knew her when she was an Arava camper in 1988, we would have never thought she would one day be the director, let alone the first FEMALE director, but we are SO lucky that she is here today. Our resident curly hair expert, lover of all gummy candies, “Just Dance” professional, and competitive ping-pong player, Lisa has done so much to make Camp Harlam the best it can be! Anyone who has been the director for the day knows firsthand how hard Lisa works to ensure the future so that all camper and staff’s needs are being met. We are all so grateful for everything you have done and look forward to another 18 years.

Thank you both all for your loyalty to Harlam and for breathing life into this holy place.
