As we begin our 60th summer here at URJ Camp Harlam, we are reminded that things can get rough when living in community.

Exciting programs, good friends, and amazing staff ensured that each summer was going to be full of that Harlam magic that keeps us all coming back year after year.

But there’s really no way to explain the joy that I get standing in a circle of people and ending my day in prayer and song. There’s no way to describe the pride I have getting a front row seat to my big sister making Camp Harlam history. And there’s no way to explain that in just two short weeks, I’ve been able to make new friendships that will not only last me through this summer, but certainly well beyond.

Let’s have fun. Let’s laugh a lot. Let’s be kind. Let’s be welcoming. Let’s be open-minded. Let’s learn together and teach one another. Let’s ask questions. Let’s celebrate our differences. Let’s push ourselves out of our comfort zones and try new things. Let’s be united. Let’s be awesome.

Camp Harlam has embraced LGBTQ inclusion over the past five years and is proactively working to make camp truly welcoming for campers and staff of all genders and orientations.
